Make Your Own Shoe Inner Soles!

Make your own fabric inner soles !
I made these inner soles yesterday another project I've been meaning to do for such a long time. I have made these years ago for myself and my boys shoes but not as fancy as these ones, the ones I used to make were made using an old towel. These are so simple and quick to make a pair took about 20 minutes to make. If you are a sewer and quilter you would have plenty of scraps available I'm sure. I used 100% cotton fabric and 100& cotton batting.
Step1.
You will need a template to use to trace for the shoes they will need to fit inside. Quite often the innersoles that are stuck inside your shoes comes out or broken see if you can use that as a template or you could trace your foot for size.cut 4 innersoles by doubling the fabric.
Step2
Trace around the out side using tailors chalk or anything that will make a mark so it's easy to see so you can cut them out.
Step 3.
Cut out cotton batting either 2 or 4 it's up to you how thin or thick you would like your innersoles to be. The first pair I made I used single thickness the
second pair I made I used double thickness.
Step 4.
Step 4.
Now sandwich the layers together before pinning.
 Step 5.
Pin the layers together it really helps to keep them together while you are sewing around the edges. I used a very close together zig zag stitch but you could also use an over locker and over lock around the edges.

This is what they look like completed and in my shoes. I haven't worn these shoes for many years because they are a little loose but now after fitting them with my innersoles they fit lovely and snug, I will be wearing them when the weather gets warmer.
This is a great idea if your shoes are to loose. Also they are great if you have smelly or sweaty feet as they can just be thrown into the washing machine or hand washed. When and if you take off your shoes anywhere they will look really pretty inside, so make innersoles to match the colour of your shoes. I made these also to go inside of my boots as they have become a little uncomfortable as I think the innersoles that are stuck inside have become thin and flat and my foot slides a little on the bottom making them uncomfortable to wear for very long, so I'm sure my feet will be a lot happier. And another added bonus the cost is very little as they are made from scraps of fabric they could also be made from recycling fabric from old clothes and old towels so they would be free.

  1. Thanks for this Sherrie. My daughter downloaded a pattern for some slippers off Ravelry and they needed a sole which you can ourchase but I think something like these would work perfectly.

  2. I made myself some of these a short while back and they are so comfy your right. For the first pair I used the foamy inner soles you can buy but since then Ive used some scrappy wadding that I picked up at our local Scrapstore.
The foam draws your feet and makes them sweat...more lol
I machine stitch quilted inside and around the sole shape to keep them flat when washed but didnt bother stitching round the outer edges, quite liking the fluffy edges as washing frays the cotton fabric I used.
Theres a pic on my blog somewhere and yes they make a good stash buster and would make a nice gift too.
